Cricket: Rochdale cup joy

Date published: 22 May 2013

Rochdale enjoyed Wood Cup joy when they beat Werneth on the minutest of superior run rates.

Both teams were bowled out at the Coppice for 148 so out came the rule book and it revealed that the side which had the better run rate - in this case faced fewer balls - be declared the winner.

Werneth made their runs in 48.4 overs, Rochdale theirs in 48.2. So, on the basis of two less balls faced, Rochdale progress in the CLL's premier knock-out competition.

Architect of Rochdale's win was South African professional Wensley Lansdale who top scored with 47 and took four wickets for 16 runs.

Joe Taylor collected three for 15 for Werneth.
