Crosfields 16 – 32 Mayfield

Date published: 22 May 2013

Mayfield NWML chalked up a terrific win at Warrington based Crosfields on Saturday playing some excellent rugby in the process.

Bolstered by the return of John Marsland and Nick Hargreaves plus the inclusion of Mitch Spackman and Rob Kershaw from the NCL squad Mayfield totally dominated the game against a side which included more than a couple of Crosfields NCL players.

The first 20 minutes were end to end with both sides trading tries with the pick of Mayfields first half tries coming from the ever impressive Sean Hill in a set play with John Marsland.

Other scores in the first half came from Andy Lee and Marsland, who’s well timed interception saw him just manage to outpace a 19 stone prop forward with a dead leg to score in the corner.

The second half saw Mayfield take control with the returning Lee Atkinson showing, despite putting on a few pounds he still has what it takes to play the game as he crashed over from dummy half.

Andy Lee added a second to further his sides lead as Mayfield's superiority began to show and only sound tackling from the Crosfields defence held the Mayfield attackers at bay.

Damien Corcoran and Marsland were running the show now with Spackman and young Gavin Low taking drive after drive to the line, tiring the defence to allow the backs to take advantage of the space created. This is just what Kershaw did as he picked the ball up in his own half and jinked his way up field finally turning the fullback inside out to score by the sticks.

Final score 16 – 32.

This was a very good performance from the Mayfield side and a well deserved two points.

Team: Sean Hill, Luke Hartley, George Yewdale, Nick Hargreaves, Mick, Andy Lee, John Marsland, Mitch Spackman, Damien Corcoran, Jake Johnson, Danny Chrimes, Anthony Greaves, Lee Atkinson, Doug Carre, Rob Kershaw, Gavin Low
