ROAFL Report

With Wardle already crowned ROAFL champions for a second successive season the focus in the Sartori Sharpening Services Premier Division has switched to the battle for the runners up place.

Balderstone’s win at Whitworth Valley, coupled with Fothergill & Whittles’ narrow defeat at Wardle, means Balderstone can seal that second place by winning their final two league games whilst F&W will take it if they avoid defeat in their final game...  against Balderstone!

Despite their 'Wiganesque' improvement of recent weeks Asia has finished second bottom, ahead of Rochdale Asia, as both Moorcock and Whitworth Valley picked up crucial wins as they cleared their respective backlogs of fixtures.

Congratulations to newcomers Westdene as they sealed the Matterson Cranes Division One title in their first season with wins over Rochdale Sacred Heart and Whitworth Valley 2nds in the past seven days.

Wardle 2nds finish behind Westdene as their own title aspirations were dashed by a poor run of late season form culminating in defeats at Rochdale Sacred Heart and Fothergill & Whittles 2nds.

Hargreaves were doomed to relegation weeks ago but spare a thought for RSH who finish sixth after their best season in years had promised a much higher finish only a month ago.

Arguably the team of the season are the Matthew Montgomery & Co Division Two champions Woodbank ; well deserved success after a number of seasons treading the murky waters of the “re-election” zone!

After being surprisingly held by Rochdale Galaxy at Firgrove they clinched the title with a thumping six goal win against Wardle 3rds a week later and can now focus on Friday’s President’s Cup Final at Rochdale Town.

Wins for both Sudden and White Lion over Rochdale Galaxy mean a play off will be needed if both of those sides win their remaining league games. Surprise A&M Memorial Trophy finalists Fothergill & Whittles 3rds hold the key here as they have to play White Lion twice in seven days on the undulating pastures of Greenvale.

At the wrong end of the table, Wardle 3rds need a win in their last game to ensure they avoid finishing second bottom, though that will not matter if Sudden do not slip up against Rochdale Galaxy the same afternoon.
