Rochdale Cobras 42 - 16 Leyland

Date published: 14 May 2013

Cobras could only field 13 players this week in the NWC U16 Cup as injuries and bans robbed them of four players, but the 13 lads that played were a committed bunch.

Cobras looked strong and organised as they got out of the blocks quickly for Haddley to score a try that Coop converted.

Poor Cobras defending allowed Leyland to level the scores within five minutes.

Low eased the nerves as he powered over within minutes, and again Coop converted

Not to be outdone, Leyland came back with a try of their own and it looked like a seesaw game was on the cards.

The locals had other ideas as Jack McCloughlin chased a kick through to score and Coop again added the extras before half time.

Haddley added three more tries to his tally in the second half and Coop added three more kicks before Chadderton chased his own kick through to score and then converted it himself.

The Cobras performance was impressive with Pawsey and Booth continuing their steep learning curve; Platt and Brierley ran and tackled well all game; Low and Haddley put in the big hits; Constantineu was a constant threat in
the centre as was Cain in the middle; Dolan and McEvoy were at the heart of everything; McCloughlin played well in the second row after a move from Centre and Coop and Chadderton combined well and kicked well throughout.

Cobras did switch off a little to allow a late, soft try but it took nothing away from the effort and teamwork on display.

Chadderton took Man of the match honours, McCloughlin second and Haddley was third.

Next game is Leyland at home in the league.
