Challenge Cup – Bradford Bulls

Date published: 20 April 2013

After what was initially, we felt, a disappointing performance against Hunslet Old Boys due to the amount of errors that we came up with throughout the game, in hindsight, and going through the video, it was sometimes a case of lose the ball or lose your teeth.

It was clear Hunslet has come to just disrupt our style of play and, like their tactics or not, for large parts of the game it worked.

However, on a massive positive for us we scored some well worked tries, our defence was great and we remained composed and kept our discipline fantastically well in a game that could have quite easily got out of hand.

So after a much needed weekend off to get rid of a few of those niggles that start to creep in after a few games back, we took the opportunity to do something as a team away from rugby which resulted in a visit to Wayno’s Mecca, Blackpool, and it was eventful to say the least! Just ask Langers about his scooter experience outside the Tower Lounge when you get the chance! Ha, ha.

After a weekend of team bonding and moral building, we were back to the grind to prepare for a momentous Challenge Cup tie against Bradford Bulls and welcome them and their fans to Spotland.

This will be a fantastic occasion for all involved and every single player is looking forward to this game as it’s a chance to test ourselves against one of the biggest sides in Super League.

In a game like this it would be a lot easier for us as a team to take the same approach that was taken against us from a lower opposition, but listening to Tol’s views on the game and as rugby players we want to give a good account of ourselves by playing our usual expansive game against Bradford the best we can.

We know it’s going to be very tough against full time opposition, as some of us remember from a few years ago against Castleford, but for 30 minutes of that game we matched them in every aspect, however, fitness was a factor and Castleford ran out convincing winners in the end so we will use that as a platform to improve on.

Personally, and from a team point of view, we are going to go out on to the field play our own game and hopefully produce a performance that both we and the fans can be proud.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible and let’s make this a day to remember.

Hornets are you ready, ready?
