Pilkington Recs 4 - 54 Rochdale Cobras

Date published: 09 April 2013

For their second game of the season, Cobras had to travel to St Helens and due to Rugby Union commitments, sickness and unexplained absences, Cobras only travelled with 15 players to a team that provided a stern test last season.

In warm conditions and on a very firm pitch, Cobras kicked off and immediately won the ball back.

In their very first set, Low steamed over from short range to score a good try, Chadderton missed the extras but it was already looking like a stroll for Cobras.

Despite having a much heavier pack, the Pilks players didn't seem to want to take the ball up after big hits from Low and Haddley, and it was only a matter of time before the Cobras dominance paid off.

Battersby, Chadderton, Dolan and Mellors combined extremely well throughout the game.

Haddley added three tries to the tally as his power and pace wore down the home defence.

Dolan picked up a well deserved try, while Platt supported a Haddley break to go in out wide.

Clegg stepped a tackle and then accelerated away before selling a cheeky dummy to the full-back and touching down.

McCloughlin took a neat ball off Mellors and scored a full length try before McEvoy, who supported everything all day, burst through the cover to touch down, and finally Booth, playing his first game, scored out wide.

Coop kicked well all game returning six kicks, while Battersby and Chadderton added one each.

An excellent all round performance for the Cobras with Cain, Diggle and Brierley also adding plenty of endeavour to a good defensive display.
