Burtonwood 20 - 22 Mayfield

Date published: 12 March 2013

From the kick off, a good platform was made by forwards Andy Battersby and Mark Nyland, supported well by Joe Hart and new young forward Gavin Low.

Good distribution from the ruck, by Craig White gave Mayfield the width they were looking for that allowed in Nick 'Boggs' Hargreaves for the first points. Converted well by John Marsland, to give Mayfield a six point lead.

Further good work by the forwards gave the backs the platform for a brilliant solo effort from Danny Chrimes putting Mayfield 12 points clear.

A little slack defending just before half time allowed Burtonwood to score their first points to make it 6-12 at half time.

Mayfield came out well in the second half with good forward work by Man of the Match Billy Percy, allowed Mayfield to score again through Andy Lee again converted to give Mayfield a 12 point lead.

After some questionable refereeing decision's, the home side run in two quick try's to make it all square with 15 minutes to go.

Two unsuccessful drop goal attempts along with another strange decision by the ref, allowed Burtonwood a penalty under the sticks. Giving them the lead for the first time at 20-18 with only minutes to go.

With just two minutes left on the clock, a brilliant cross field kick by Johnny is collected by George Yewdale to score in the corner.

This completed the scoring and gave new coach Derek Buckley his first win. 20-22
