The Alan Stott Memorial Trophy
Date published: 21 February 2013
Rochdale Cobra’s ARLFC recently held their end of season presentation.
During the evening the club presented trophies to players and one of the trophies had been kindly donated by money raised by the family of Alan Stott.
Alan died on 11 June 2012 aged 83 years old, at his funeral his family requested that rather than those attending buying floral tributes they gave any donations in his memory and the moneys collected were then donated to Rochdale Cobra’s Juniors.
Alan had loved rugby league and had followed local teams in Smallbridge, Milnrow and Littleborough for many years. He encouraged his son Peter and grandson Jack to play the game and he loved and enjoyed watching youngsters play the game whenever he could.
He would have been very proud to think he has contributed to the development of the game with a local junior rugby league team and the club was thankful for the donations made.
We spoke at length with Alan’s family and it was decided that the club would purchase a trophy to be presented annually, The Alan Stott Memorial Trophy, and this is presented to the leading try scorer for the junior teams across all the age groups.
This season the trophy was presented by Alan’s son, Peter Stott to Christian McDaid with a fantastic 40 tries for the under 9’s team.
