Dale will be without striker Bobby Grant, who starts a four-match suspension following his red card against Chesterfield last weekend.
It was Grant's second dismissal of the season, meaning an extra match has been added to his initial three-game ban.
Fit-again defender John Johnson could return as Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd looks for a response to successive defeats.
Fellow defender David Artell (Achilles) is unlikely to have recovered.
