Popular local boxer to turn pro

Date published: 06 February 2013

Andrew Kremner, the promising local fighter whose fight-winning exploits have thrilled fight-fans has announced that he is to turn professional.

Andrew has admitted to some disillusionment with the local amateur fight scene and plans to have his first professional fight in six months time.

He is currently training at world-famous Bobby Shannon's gym in order to prepare himself for this significant step-up in his career. Shannon is a well-respected figure in the sport and formerly trained Ricky Hatton.

Andrew told Rochdale Online: “Ricky Hatton has even popped into the gym to train alongside me, which was priceless.

"The professional fight game is very different to the amateur one and the training schedule is far more rigorous.

“Both Ricky and current champion, Denton Vassell have gone on record as describing Shannon as the best coach out there at the moment. He has opened my eyes to a lot of tricks of the trade and skills that I didn't know with his gruelling bag sessions, regular sparring, circuits and world class pad work.

“He has also made me aware of there being different levels of ability and experience for different coaches and I believe him to be the Manchester United or the Manchester City of the boxing community. I believe he is the best out there and he really is one of the most respected figures in the business.

“Under his guidance I believe I can become a champion. He has taken me under his wing and I'm now one of his boxers in the Shannon stable, which is a great honour. I train daily alongside professional boxers Joe Collins, Denton Vassell and David Barnes. This has made me up my game and training has never been so hard. I really have got the buzz for the sport again and I just wished I have gone and trained with him earlier.”

Andrew is a former pupil of Hopwood Hall College.
