2013 is looking like an incredible year for Hornets and we hope you can get along this Thursday Evening and show your support to the players and coaches.
Ian, Matt and the other coaches will be available to take your questions and update members on the progress the squad is making in pre-season and the hopes and aspirations for the forthcoming season.
The event starts at 7pm for members only, when members can discuss the recent link up with Saints and other club activity. The full event starts at 7.30pm, lets have a fantastic turnout and give the lads a real positive boost.
Good Luck Nicola!
Nicola our Office manager has moved onto pastures new to work in the administration Department of Oulder Hill School.
Nicola joined the Hornets straight from University and has been a real asset to the club for the last 3 1/2 years.
The club presented Nicola with a bunch of flowers and a card to thank her for all her hard work and we hope she is as successful in her new career as she was with the Hornets.
Hornets Launch World Cup Name Campaign Rochdale Hornets and our World Cup consortium partners are heavily committed to supporting the forthcoming Rugby League World Cup in 2013.
It has been the honour and privilege this weekend to play host to the fabulous Rugby League World Cup Trophy.
The Trophy visited two of the towns leading community Rugby League Clubs, along with the Wheatsheaf shopping centre and took part in a major Town Centre event which saw the Rochdale Christmas Lights switch on, with the trophy being shown to several hundred spectators.
In recent discussions with the organisers of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup it was mentioned that the Trophy itself doesn't have a name which several sporting trophies do, the obvious example being soccers Jules Rimet Trophy.
Rochdale Hornets believe that it would be of a huge benefit to the Rugby League World Cup in 2013 and future tournaments if the RLIF were to name the trophy after the originator and driving force behind the idea of a Rugby League World Cup and the man who commissioned the trophy itself.
We therefore have formally requested that the RLIF look into officially naming the Rugby League World Cup: "The Paul Barrière Trophy". Rochdale Hornets are one of the original founder members of the game of Rugby League way back in 1895, and we believe the sport should celebrate and recognise the people who have helped shape and form the game we know and love.
Rochdale Hornets Chairman Mark Wynn said: "This weekend has really brought home how important the World Cup Trophy is to the game and we believe that the sport should recognise the founding father of the Trophy.
Wherever we took the trophy this weekend we were literally swamped with people wanting their photos taken with it and just to be near it.
As a person Paul Barrière was a war time resistance fighter and a sporting visionary, what better individual could we have associated with the game when on a world stage.
I have written to the International Federation this weekend to ask them to consider our request."
Rochdale has been allocated the Fiji v Ireland fixture in Group A of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, and interest in this game has already been huge, with ticket sales far exceeding all initial projections. The match itself takes place on the 28 of October 2013 and tickets are available via the World Cup Website www.rlwc2013.com/ or at the ticket office at Spotland Stadium.
The Fiji V Ireland fixture has seen several agencies in Rochdale come together to promote the clash. Headed up by Rochdale Council, the consortia also includes Link4Life, Bury, Bolton and Rochdale Rugby League and Rochdale Hornets.
Ryan Bradley from BBR Rugby League added: "Interest in the Fiji v Ireland game has been fantastic, and hosting the World Cup trophy this weekend has boosted even further the profile of the fixture. We also want to add our support to the campaign to name the Cup,The Paul Barrière Trophy, and we would urge all Rugby League fans to support our campaign."
