Rochdale Mayfield review
Date published: 07 November 2012
Mayfield play hosts to Bank Quay Bulls in the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon at The Mayfield Sports Centre.
Match sponsors Ace Electrical are hoping to be treated to a good old cup tie like the last time these two teams met.
Mayfield were comfortable winners two years ago in the challenge cup after Bulls gave them a real scare with strong running centre Mark Forster causing the home side problems. The visitors are currently pushing for the top spot in the NWML Premier division and are considered a very strong side.
Mayfield will be fielding their strongest side for a while, although Taurean Sheehan is doubtful after injuring his ankle in his comeback last week after his broken leg. Also due back are Rob Kershaw, Si Moore, Ben Simpson, Sam Butterworth and Sammy Samson. Training has gone well and Mayfield will be looking to going through to the next round, a home tie against East Leeds next week.
The Mayfield committee and players would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dave Marcroft of Ace Electrical for his continued support and his invaluable assistance in fundraising over the course of the season. At half time in Saturday’s game Bill Feeney and the Hornets ex players association will present the Peter Birchall Man Of Steel award to the Mayfield player of the year Eric Johnson.
It is important to announce that for a period of approximately seven months the Keswick Street entrance will be out of use due to the onset of building works and facility improvements at the club.
Entrance to the club will be through the original Chadwick Lane gate.

Spectators and players alike are asked to drive carefully and park responsibly.
