Hornets Community Indoor Bowls League

Date published: 16 October 2012

Representatives from 9 different Bowling Clubs from the Rochdale area attended the first session of the Rochdale Hornets Community Indoor Bowls session on Tuesday (16 October) morning

Following a presentation at the recent Rochdale Vets League Presentation evening, representatives from bowling clubs Healey, Buersil, Norden, Wardle, Rochdale, Whitworth Festival Park, Bamford, Syke and Queens Park were all represented as individuals came along to sample the set up at Hornets Spotland Stadium base.

The morning started with a few practice ends to gauge the pace of the mat before the participants were split into teams of 3 for a friendly match up, with Brian Belfied (Healey), Bernard Ward (Buersil) and Tim Rothwell (Whitworth FP) running out 14-9 winners after 12 ends.

All participants were impressed with the set up and are looking to come back as the session moves into a League format from next Tuesday. Teams of 4 are encouraged to sign up, with matches being played in pairs each week.

Each pair will play in a best of 12 ends match, with 2 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 2 for the best aggregate.

The games are played on a long mat with all equipment provided, although participants are welcome to bring there own woods if they wish.
