Rochdale Mayfield Preview

Date published: 12 October 2012

Rochdale Mayfield can make it five wins in a row when they cross the Pennines to play second-placed Bradford Dudley Hill on Saturday.

Their hosts have scored more points than anybody else in the league, and conceded the fewest, but Mayfield go into the game full of confidence having won the reverse fixture in June.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth are waiting on fitness tests for Eric Johnson and Simon Moore before naming their squad.

The duo missed the win against Wigan St Judes last week, but the coaches believe that their inclusion would still be a boost due to the extra dimension that the two add.

Paul Brearley was also the subject of praise from his coaches who believe his performance in that win was an inspiration to those around him.

Since that game they have worked hard towards ironing out the defensive lapses that were on show during their performance, and believe that if they fulfil their potential against Bradford they are capable of completing the double over them.

Mayfield’s Alliance side are also in action on Saturday at mid-table Wigan Spring View.

Mayfield are hoping to be fielding a full strength squad for the game with Andy Lee and Paul Hancock looking to continue their impressive season in the middle of the park.

Chairman Simon Howe believes it has been mixed season for the Alliance side, although things have picked up in recent weeks.

“It’s been an up and down season,” he said. “But the lads have stuck at it and of late have shown a big improvement.”

He added: “They go to Wigan today with only one thing in mind, a victory.”
