Rochdale Mayfield review

Date published: 03 October 2012

With today being Grand Final day, Mayfield’s game against St Jude kicks off at the earlier time of 1.00pm. This gives players and supporters alike the chance to get to Old Trafford for the Super League finale.

The game at the Mayfield Sports Centre will be just as intense with both sets of players looking for the win as the season enters the last few weeks. If Mayfield are victorious this afternoon they will leapfrog their opponents to claim seventh spot in the division with two games to go.

Last week's blank date means the Rochdale side will be fully rested and raring to get back in action.

The reverse fixture in Wigan saw Mayfield triumph 32 – 48 with the help of a Matt Calland hat trick.

It's doubtful that Calland will be fit for Saturday afternoon but Mayfield still have the quality in the squad to beat Jude, with players like Todd O’Brien, Eric Johnson and Simon Moore showing week after week that they are the best in their positions in the division.

Also Saturday afternoon the Mayfield Masters team entertain Medway Dragons who are travelling up from London for the Grand Final and stopping off at Castleton for a game before hand. The game will KO at 12.00 noon with two 30 minute halves and will feature ex players from all over town with Littleborough stalwart Bob Crossley, Spotland's Marvin Connelly and many ex Mayfield players.

As always with the Masters games anyone who fancies rolling back the years and dusting off the boots for a gentler game of rugby is more than welcome. Meet at the club for 11.30.

Fixtures:
Nat Con Div1 Mayfield v St Jude Ko 1.00
Masters Mayfield v Medway Dragons ko 12.00.
