Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC review

Date published: 19 September 2012

Mayfield return to action with a home game against bottom club Castleford Panthers. Cas have struggled all season with just one win and a draw to their credit, Mayfield having already beat them on their own ground 18 – 30 way back in May.

Apart from Taurean Sheehan and Paul Lane, both with long term injuries, Mayfield report back with a clean bill of health.

"If we win today it should see us move above St Jude and into the top half of the table for the first time in a long while", said coach sam Butterworth, "we have had some intense training sessions since our last game and are ready to go this afternoon. We see no problems and if we play how we know we can the victory should be ours."

After going down to a last second try last week, Mayfield Alliance will be hoping to claim a win as they travel to mid table Haresfinch. The St Helen's side had a victory over an under strength St Anne's side last week but are still there for the taking.

Coach Derek Buckley was pleased with the overall performance at Bold, where despite having two players dismissed they still should have won.

"We were on top last week even when we lost Curly Kershaw who uncharacteristically reacted to a cynical foul, and then Billy Percy who was involved in an unsavoury incident. We still had the beating of the opposition right up till the last play when they grabbed the winning score. We had done well all afternoon with Sean Hill being a revelation at full back and Paul Hancock having his usual dominating influence in the middle.

"Tries came from Nick Hargreaves, George Yewdale, and Hancock. The game today will be tough but if we show the same spirit as we have shown in recent weeks we could claim the points."
