Hollingworth Lake SC wins 24-hour sailing race

Date published: 17 September 2012

The 2012 annual WLYC 24 Hour Race at Marine Lake, Southport was won by Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Team GB’s Olympic silver medalist Stuart Bithell was at Marine Lake cheering Hollingworth Lake SC (A) on.

OTS News explains the race is the premiere opportunity for Sailing Club teams to compete for serious trophies and was sailed on the relatively safe waters of the Marine Lake at Southport, and racing is continuous for 24 Hours.

Entries each year are accepted from Sailing Clubs, Class Associations and Universities throughout the UK, with occasional visits from Eire, France and even the USA. Crew and equipment/sail changes are permitted during the race (but only in a specially designated docking area).

The 24 Hour Race, now in its 46th year, is sailed in classic dinghies (Enterprise, GP14 and Lark); and has opportunities for Masters and University teams to compete for special prizes, whilst also being on equal terms with all other teams.
