Mayfield 16 - 32 Leyland

Date published: 12 September 2012

Despite suffering another loss on Saturday, Mayfield’s Alliance side were left feeling upbeat after a massive change in mood and confidence, not to mention performance.

The final score of 16 – 32 was not a true reflection of Mayfield's contribution to a game, that really could of gone either way.

Despite missing five players due to injuries and work commitments, Mayfield still managed to turn out a squad of 19.

In hot conditions the home side gave as good as they got in the opening exchanges with Neil Connolly, Andy Lee and Paul Hancock in particular standing out and organising things in the middle of the field.

In the forwards Mark Nyland was again outstanding, putting in another eighty minute shift while Craig White and Leon Ashworth worked hard down the middle.

Tries came from Hancock with a typical hookers try, Sean Hill who rose majestically to gather an Andy Lee kick and the pick of the bunch from Anthony Greaves who again managed to sprint eighty metres brushing of tackles as he went to touch down by the sticks.

Coach Derek Buckley said he was very pleased with the performance and is now looking forward to training this week when game structure will be the order of the day.

Mayfield Team: Sean Hill, Luke Hartley, Anthony Bamford, Luke senior, Andy Lee, Neil Connoly, Mark Nyland, Paul Hancock, Leon Ashworth, Billy Percy, Anthony Greaves, Craig White, Curly Kershaw, Chris Leach, Dillon O’Shea, Aaron Hannam, Paul Carmody.
