Mayfield review
Date published: 12 September 2012
Mayfield NCL have no game this week which gives most of the first team squad time to get over any niggling injuries as they enter the final stages of this inaugural summer season.
The Alliance side on the other hand have a tough game at Bold Miners. Bold were one of the best teams in the division in the early part of the season but have suffered a reverse of fortune over the past few weeks winning only one of the last five games.
Mayfield will not fall into the trap of expecting a win here though with the coaching staff knowing only to well what can happen if the attitude is not right for each and every game.
This week has seen a continuation of the recent improvements in training and game preparation. Most of the training this week has centred on set plays and game structure.
Coach Derek Buckley has seen enough of the side now to now where they need to improve and is concentrating on these areas.
“We had a great attitude last week and played some great rugby while going down to Leyland and I’m confident that if we show the same improvement this week we will push Bold all the way.
"Paul Hancock and Neil Connolly were outstanding last week controlling the Mayfield pack and with Andy Lee calling the plays we looked a far better side than we have so far this season.
"In the forwards Mark Nyland and Billy Percy were non stop taking the ball to Leyland at every opportunity and we will be expecting more of the same today.
