Mayfield Fixture review
Date published: 29 September 2012
After having last week off due to the Challenge Cup Final Mayfield return to action with a home fixture against Stanley Rangers.
Wakefield based Stanley have not had the best of seasons, struggling to find form and not really putting together a good run of results. Mayfield, although three places above today’s opponents, have had a truly up and down season with some great highs and fantastic performances like the victories at Millom and St Jude but also some losing games they should have won, most notably at St Anne’s.
Coaches Sam Butterworth and Matt Calland are hoping the week off will be to the benefit of the team, clearing up injuries and honing their game plan.
Mayfield are without the services of the rock solid Mark Biggins who has, this week, moved his family down south.
“He will leave a massive hole in the pack” said Butterworth: “He has been our most consistent forward this season and will be sorely missed; all at the club wish Mark and his family all the best for the future.
"We are still without Taurean Sheehan and Paul Lane both with long term injuries but the rest of the squad are ready to go and we look forward to the KO”.
Sponsors today: In the Zone, Ace Electrical, William Murphy and Sons along with Yelloway. Unique Sports are match ball sponsors.
The Alliance side look to carry on where they left off with victories over St Jude and St Anne’s as they make the trip to Chorley.
Chorley pipped Mayfield earlier in the season in a game Mayfield still feel they should have won.
With a large squad to select from the coaching staff will have a tough job as they sit down to pick the best seventeen on the day.
New addition to the coaching staff Neil Buckley has been running the rule over the squad and, though he has yet to get to know everyone, he says he is confident they can take the points from Chorley.
“We have a good blend of youth and experience and the squad is a lot fitter than I expected so we ready for action today and raring to go.
"All players meet as per pre match text”, said Buckley.
