Youngsters at all primary and secondary schools across the borough will have the opportunity to take in a game for free at Spotland this season.
From next month, Dale’s Football in the Community Trust will give away free tickets to two different schools for every home league fixture as part of their new ‘adopt a school’ initiative.
The scheme gets under way on September 22 when Rochdale take on Dagenham and Redbridge, and will see pupils from Marland Hill and St Vincent’s Primary Schools attending.
Keith Hicks, Head of Football in the Community said: “This is something I have been aiming to introduce for a number of years and following the decision to allow home supporters take in a match in Willbutts Lane this season, it has made the introduction of the adopt a school scheme much easier.
“The concept of the day is to adopt two schools for each game and to provide all pupils at these particular schools with free tickets. As well as watching the match from the Willbutts Lane end at Spotland, each school will also have the chance to take part in a half time challenge on the pitch, while one youngster will lead out the team alongside Captain Peter Cavanagh.”
