Metzger wins triple jump to become UK No1
Date published: 22 August 2012
Cardinal Langley RC High School pupil Kevin Metzger won the Under 15 boy’s triple jump at the UK Athletics Championships.
Kevin’s triple jump career began this year and has quickly progressed.
His first competition was last June, the Greater Manchester Schools' Championships at Stretford, which he won after a three month layoff with a fractured pelvis.
Kevin has since become the UK under 15 number one at the event.
Last Sunday at the UK Athletics Championships at Bedford, only his fifth triple jump competition, the boy relegated to UK No2 suggested to Kevin that he would need to see a video of his claimed 13.39m northern record before he would believe it.
Every jump of Kevin’s for the fiercely contested UK National title would have won the competition.
Kevin produced a massive 13.59m, making him UK No1 by well over half a metre and eleventh in the British all-time list.
