Nicola helps Team GB secure hockey win

Date published: 01 August 2012

One of Rochdale’s brightest Olympic hopefuls scored her first goal of the Games last night (31 July).

24-year-old Nicola White from Littleborough scored her debut goal for Team GB in the women’s hockey match against South Korea; giving the team their second straight victory in the Olympics so far.

Nicola helped Britain, who beat Japan 4-0 in their first game, on their way to an eventual 5-3 win over the Koreans and couldn't contain her excitement post-match, saying: "Absolutely fantastic match this evening versus Korea, winning 5-3 and scoring my first GB goal. So far two games, two wins."

Nicola will be hoping for a repeat performance as her team face Belgium in their next match on Thursday (2 August).

Things are also looking good for Britain in the rowing men’s quads. The team, coached by fellow Littleborough-born Mark Banks, have qualified for the semi finals after coming second to Germany in heat three of the men’s quadruple sculls.
