Mayfield travel to Milford in the Conference Challenge Cup

Date published: 11 July 2012

Mayfield face a tough task this afternoon as they travel to Milford in the Conference Challenge Cup.

Milford have already beaten Mayfield in both of their meetings this season. Coaches Sam Butterworth and Matt Calland are not unduly worried by this. They believe they saw enough in the last encounter to know that they have the quality in their team to be able to beat Milford, so long as they perform on the day.

Mr Calland said: “Mayfield were brilliant against league leaders Dudley Hill last month. If they can recreate that form, they will have every chance of progressing to the next round.”

There are team changes with Si Moore out suspended, Ben Simpson awaiting a fitness test and Paul Brearley and Rob Kershaw are back in contention after missing the last game. There could also be a return to action for Luke Samson after spending the last six months travelling.

Mayfield Alliance is also on the road as they travel to Leigh Miners. Mayfield recorded a confident victory over St Ann’s last week and will be hoping to capitalise on this.

Mayfield coach, Lee Durrant said: “Leigh are a good side. They are third in the division and have had some good wins, including one over us when they beat us by two points a couple of months ago.

"We are starting to gel now and are improving week-by-week, so we will be looking to go there today and continue that improvement.”
