Hornets Mark the 90th Anniversary of the "Greatest Moment"
Date published: 18 June 2012
Rochdale Hornets are to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the greatest moment in the club's history, when the Hornets defeated Hull FC 10-9 in the final of the 1922 Rugby League Challenge Cup.
The club has organised a trip to Wembley for Hornets supporters for the 2012 Rugby League Challenge Cup and already a great deal of interest has been shown.
Hornets Chairman Mark Wynn said: "Rochdale Hornets have an incredible history and its one we should shout about. Celebrating our "Greatest Moment" and having the Fijians play in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup are the things we should be justifiably proud of, and we hope Hornets Supporters, old and new will enjoy and get behind these events."
It promises to be a busy time for Hornets as Saturday sees a special "Tug of War" Challenge between Fiji and Ireland outside the Town Hall to promote the 2013 Rugby League World Cup Fixture during the Olympic Torch Parade.
The Hornets in conjunction with Club Sponsor the Wheatsheaf Centre will also be up at Spotland Stadium cheering the torch parade on and giving out various "goodies" to the people lining the route.
Hornets will also have a table at the Fly the Flag event in Rochdale thanks to another club sponsor Kleenstrike, who are members of the Rochdale Rotary Club.
Then to top the day off the Rochdale Hornets Under 23`s are taking on Fiji UK at the Kingsway Sports Arena at 6pm in a special Challenge Match Sponsored by Red Tree International.
The post-game presentation is at the Flying Horse Hotel and the presenation is followed by the debut of a new band, The Flying Cobras, who are predominately made up of local Rugby League Supporters. The perfect choice after such a busy Rugby League Day!
