Preview of this weekends Rugby League action

Date published: 13 June 2012

Undefeated in the last seven games, Rochdale Mayfield find themselves at home this Saturday (16 June) facing the division leaders, Bradford Dudley Hill. Kick off is at 2:30pm at the Mayfield Sports Centre.

Matt Calland, head coach said: "The lads have trained well over the last few weeks. They are all enjoying the structure that we are playing to, which has recently brought the team rewards.

"It was disappointing to have last week’s away game at Wigan St Judes postponed, but it has given those who are carrying knock-backs a chance to return to full strength."

The game is sponsored by Yearsley cold storage and food distribution.

The day will also see the youngest players at the club, the Under 7's, take on their counterparts the Westhoughton Lions in a curtain raiser at 1:45pm.

The Alliance team continue their campaign in the Domino's Pizza North West Men's League with an away fixture against Ince Rose Bridge at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Coach Lee Durrant said: "After a disappointing last few games, we showed up well against a Leigh Miners team last Saturday. We only lost out to a last minute, length of the field intercept try. The overall performance was gritty and saw us lead the Miners for most of the game.

"We have worked hard in training this week in preparation of our trip to Ince. Ince will, once again, be a hard encounter, but I feel that if we have the same attitude, we can come away with something from the game."

The club received some good news this week; with the confirmation that go ahead forward, Simon Moore, has been chosen as part of the 20 man NCL Eagles team. They will be playing two games in France next weekend.

Simon Howe, Club Chairman commented: "This is a great honour for both Simon and the club. It continues our record of providing players to the tour for the last three years. Simon has worked hard in squad training and will be an asset to the squad.

"They will play two games in four days in France, against top rep teams; we wish him a good trip."
