Octopush tournament

Date published: 08 June 2012

Rochdale Under-16 Octopush (underwater hockey) team competed in a tournament hosted at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre against teams as far away as Teignmouth and Dawlish in the South West.

The game involves teams of 10 players wearing a mask, fins and snorkel holding their breath and pushing a puck towards the gullies at either end of the swimming pool.

The winners were Teignmouth with Dawlish second. Rochdale finished seventh.

Octopush has never been accepted as an Olympic sport despite the fact it is played in more than 20 countries and holds European and World Championships every two years.
