Mayfield review

Date published: 06 June 2012

Mayfield hit the road on Saturday 9 June to travel to Wigan, where they face St Judes.

Judes are having a great season so far, with seven wins out of their ten starts; one of which being an impressive victory at highly placed Milford.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth are aware of the quality of their opponents today but are also conscious of the quality that their own side embodies.

Calland said: “Throughout the team everyone is performing well and playing with confidence. The half backs are distributing some good ball and the rest of the side is making the most of that. Last weeks victory was very pleasing, there were no weak links in the team and providing we perform to the same standard today we can win in Wigan, which is always a good feeling.”

After having no fixture last week, the Alliance Team are eager to get back into action and show new coach Lee Durrant what they are capable of.

Their opposition on Saturday 9 June at The Mayfield Sports Centre is Leigh Miners Rangers. Miners are having a decent season so far with 3 wins from 5, so this will be a tough encounter.

Durrant is undeterred and said: “We all know about the opposition, but we are not interested in them, today is about us. I need to get to know the players a little better, but I like what I’ve seen so far. We will go out this afternoon to win the game and we will build from there.”
