Milnrow CC v Ashton CC

Date published: 04 June 2012

Milnrow professional Babar Naeem picked up another 8 wicket haul on Saturday as Milnrow beat basement team Ashton by 8 wickets in a one sided encounter.

Naeem's 8-49 has taken his season's tally to 44 wickets in just 8 games.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, a poor Ashton side promptly lost their first 2 wickets with only 1 run on the board. They lost their 6th wicket 24 runs later.

At the half way stage they were 44-8 and an early tea seemed a certainty. However, through a combination of dogged batting, lady luck and several dropped catches, the tenth wicket partnership of Oran Simms and JP Lewis yielded 79 runs and enabled Ashton to post a respectable 123 all out.

Simms and Lewis frustrated the home side's bowlers as it looked as though Milnrow would fail to take Ashton's remaining 2 wickets but Naeem, aided by his midas touch, picked up 2 wickets in his final over to give Milnrow the chance of 5 points.

That man Naeem got Milnrow's reply off to a good start with a brisk 43 before he was out attempting to up the tempo as the clouds closed in.

Alex Bartley was next in and continued where Naeem had left off as he blazed his way to 54 not out off only 36 balls.

Milnrow beat Ashton, and the weather, to claim their sixth successive 5 point victory.
