Diamond Jubilee Family Fun Day

Date published: 09 May 2012

Mayfield are gearing up for the Diamond Jubilee with a massive family fun day planned on Tuesday 5 June.

The event is being sponsored by the Rochdale Hornets ex players association and will include a junior rugby festival with teams from each of the eight age groups Mayfield run.

There will also be a master’s game against opponents yet to be named and hopefully some involvement from the Redwood School rugby team.

Club Chairman Simon Howe says: “I would first and foremost like to thank Tony Pratt and Mick Baxter for their help in organising the event this is going to be an ambitious project and without their help it would not be possible.

In a fantastic gesture the Ex Players will also be buying kits for three of the teams involved, these will be, Mayfield U13’s, Littleborough U8’s and the Cobras girls team with the kits to be presented on the day.

I’m sure that everyone involved will join me in giving a massive vote of thanks for this act of great generosity. Although Mayfield is primarily a rugby league club that will not be the only thing going on, we have all sorts planned with sprint races, tug o war, face painting, a BBQ and much much more including Rochdale’s premier disco “Stevie Van G” plus live music.

Guest of honour making the presentations after training earlier in the day with his team the Warrington Wolves will be Great Britain star Adrian Morley.

Adrian will also be available for photo’s and questions in the club. There is no entry charge and everyone is invited, we would like to see the whole community get behind this and make the event a huge success.

Simon Moore selected for Eagles
One Mayfield player is celebrating this week after being selected for the conference Eagles representative side.

Powerful forward Simon Moore was put forward for selection by the club after a string of impressive performances.

Club Chairman Simon Howe was over the moon at Simons selection saying: “This lad has come on leaps and bounds over the past two seasons and is testament to the coaching ability of Sam Butterworth and Matt Calland.”

Butterworth himself commented: “ Simon has worked really hard for the team this season and has shown what can happen if a player applies himself, we wish him all the best as he travels to France.”

The Eagles travel to the south of France where they play two games over the weekend 24/25 June.
