Milnrow CC v Crompton CC
Date published: 06 May 2012
A fine all round team performance gave Milnrow a comfortable 201 run victory over neighbours Crompton to earn 10 points over the first ‘double header’ weekend of the season.
Batting first, Milnrow paced their innings superbly after initial patience from Max Power (62) and Nathan Sinkinson (34) in particular, was followed by well timed acceleration from the middle order. Mohammed Jehangir, making his home debut, smashed 71 from 33 balls including 5 fours and 5 sixes in an innings more accustomed to the IPL.
It certainly entertained the crowd which included members of the Labour party who were sponsoring the game and enabled Milnrow to post an imposing score of 280-5.
The improbable soon became the impossible as Dave Richards was out LBW to the first ball of Crompton’s reply.
Professional Babar Naeem, who had earlier hit 59 in Milnrow’s innings, finished with 5-18 as he formed a potent spin attack alongside 16-year-old Declan Wilkinson, who took a career best 4-15.
Milnrow mopped up the Crompton innings for 79 to complete a fine weekend for Babar Naeem’s team, whose hard work in the nets is beginning to pay off.
