Rochdale Premier Indoor Cricket League Awards

The third award ceremony of Rochdale Sports and Cultural Links (RSCL) was held at the Roti Restaurant to celebrate the sporting achievements of young people involved with Rochdale Premier Indoor Cricket League.

Over 50 people attended the evening and among the guests were Simone Danzcuk MP, Terry Linden, Ghulam Rasul Shahzad (OBE), Councillor Sultan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Tahir Mahmood (Chairman of RSCL).

This year’s league winners were Peshawar Panthers, second place Rochdalians and third place were Max XI and DLCC.

The evening was started by Hafiz Ali reciting few verses from the Qur^an and then Ghulam Rasul Shahzad welcomed and thanked all the guests and players for attending the ceremony. He also mentioned that: “This year the league was very successful due to the dedication of the players and also the determination and perseverance of RSCL committee members Mohammed Siddique, Abdul Quyyom, and Mohammed Tayab.”

Cups and medals were presented to players in front of family, friends and dignitaries.

Simon Danczuk praised the organisers and congratulated the winning teams (Peshawar Panthers and Rochdalians) and also encouraged other teams to do better next year.

The runners up cups was presented by Athar Mahmood on behalf of Tahir Mahmood (Chairman of RSCL) to Rochdalians.

Ghulam Rasool Shahzad presented trophies to best batsman and best bowler of the league.

Councillor Sultan Ali presented medals to umpires and scorers.

  • Medals for Umpires and Scorer - Mohammed Amin Tufail, Mohammed Tayyab, Mohammed Siddique, and Sakib Ali
  • Rochdale Premier Cricket League winners – Peshawar Panthers
  • Rochdale Premier Cricket League runners up – Rochdalians
  • Best Batsman of the League - Mohammed Hameed of Rochdalians (294 runs)
  • Best Bowler of the League – Qaier Thatha of King Lions (18 wickets)
  • Young player of the league – Sakib Ali of Pershawar Panthers (165 runs and 14 wickets)
Rochdale Sports and Cultural Links is a non-profit making voluntary organisation. Its main aims are to organise sporting activities that help promote community cohesion and healthy living. RSCL also promotes the interest and concerns of the local community.

All the Cricket Clubs in Rochdale are invited to take part in next year’s league starting the first week of November 2012. Teams can be registered by contacting RPCL@hotmail.co.uk
