Peshawar Panthers win cricket league title

Peshawar Panthers won the 3rd Rochdale Premier Indoor Cricket League with 26 points by beating Rochdalians in their last match of the league. Rochdalians came 2nd with 22 points and Max XI and DLCC claimed the 3rd position with 18 points.

First match of the day was between 8 Lions and DGS. 8 Lions batted first and made 110 runs in their 8 overs. Excellent batting from Javid, 33 runs and Ali, 14 runs. An excellent response from DGS winning the match by 4 wickets with 1 over to spare. Good batting by Shahbaz, 28 runs and Asif (Papu), 24 runs (not out). Good bowling from Asif (Papu) taking 4 wickets for 18 runs.

In the 2nd match of the day Peshawar Panthers won against Rochdalians. This match was the deciding match for the league winner. Peshawar Panthers batted first and made 94 runs in their 8 overs. Excellent batting from Sakib making 31 runs, and Ilyas, 15 runs. Not a good start from Rochdalians losing their first wicket with 2 runs on the board. Rochdalians could only make 72 runs and lost the match by 22 runs. Apart from Atif, 18 runs and Faisal, 17 runs, none of the other batsmen contributed much to the total. With this win Peshaware Panthers won the league title.

In the other matches of the day Unique, King Lions, Max XI and DLCC failed to turn up.

An RSCL spokesman said: "Congratulations to Peshawar Panthers on winning the Rochdale Premier Indoor Cricket League this year."

After the matches’ captains of all the teams praised the organisers Abdul Quyyom, Mohammed Siddique and Mohammed Tayyab for running such a organised and competitive league.

RSCL committee members thanked all the players and spectators for taking part in the league and supporting their teams every week. All the teams were invited again to take part in the next year’s indoor league.

The presentation Ceremony will be held on 25 March at the Roti Restaurant at 6.30pm. Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk will be presenting cups and trophies to all the winners and runners up.
