Chesterfield came from behind to confirm Dale's relegation from League One.
Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro put Dale ahead from the edge of the box.
Scott Boden pulled Chesterfield level from close range before Danny Whitaker drove in the winner after Franck Moussa's shot hit the bar.
Dale fans were stoic in their support for the team, with the 500/600 who travelled to Chesterfield making themselves heard throughout the match.
