Mayfield U7s tame the Bears
Date published: 20 April 2012
Rochdale Mayfield Mustangs under 7s travelled to Ashton in Makerfield to take on the Ashton Bears and came home with the spoils as they scored eight tries and showed great tenacity in defence.
Kyle Durrand opened the scoring with his first try of the season and the try of the day, as he took on the defence with a straight run, then showed neat footwork to jink through the tacklers and dive over the line.
Further tries were scored by Ben Metcalf, Harvey Hall and Bradley Schofield, who scored four quality tries, and got the medal as 'attacker' of the match.
The top defender's medal was won by Ben Metcalf, who was ably assisted by Issac Reid, Henry Allen, Sonny Joyce and Jamie Howe.
The Castleton based clubs under 7's games and training continue throughout the summer.
A spokesman for the club said: "All reception, year 1 and year 2 children are welcome. Contact Simon Howe on 07920 865106 for details."
