Mayfield preview
Date published: 31 March 2012
Cumbrian based Millom are the visitors to the Mayfield Sports Centre today (Saturday 31 March) in the NCL div 1 game, Millom have had a slightly better start to the season than their hosts, having won one out of their three outings.
That victory came against Milford who thrashed Mayfield in Leeds a couple of weeks ago.
“Mayfield are struggling to find any consistency so far this season having not yet picked up a point in the league as yet there is no panic we know we have the quality at the club to beat some of the sides we have lost to,” said coach Sam Butterworth, “We are hoping that powerful prop forward Ben Simpson will return today after recovering from a back injury he picked up in our first game. Simpson is a quality forward and his inclusion will give the whole team a boost.
“We also have Danny Moran and Mark Biggins who both returned last week so with a bit of luck we can start building a settled side who can start winning. We proved in the second half of last week’s game that we have what it takes to play rugby and score tries, this week we need to apply that from the start of the game and we can pick up a much needed win.”
In the sponsors Zone with Ace Electrical are the Kirkholt’s ex-players association led by Mayfield legend Peter Standring who had a successful spell coaching at the club in the eighties.
