Preview: Littleborough v Mayfield
Date published: 27 January 2012
Mayfield Alliance take to the field on Sunday (29 January) as they make the short journey to Littleborough in the Riley Cup.
Coaches Leon Ashworth and Marvin Conolly have been putting the lads through their paces through the close season and are keen to put their work to the test.
They concede that their opponents have the match fitness but are still confident that the standard of players and the coaching they have received will be enough to see them through.
“It will be a tough game, as derby games always are, and Littleborough will all out to beat us,” said Ashworth, “But we will be going all out to win this one. We have players who picked up knocks in the town team game last week so we will wait until the day before naming our side.”
He added: “There are a couple of the lads who will be figuring in Saturday’s first team game like Jack Ashworth, Jake Boardman and Andy Lee these are class players able to win games put these lads with the likes of Paul Hancock Dave Devlin and the returning Dunc Simpson and we have a good side looking to carry on where we left off last season.”
