Mayfield v Westhoughton
Date published: 20 January 2012
Mayfield NWC travelled to Westhoughton on Saturday for their NWC div 4 fixture.
On a shocking surface Mayfield tried hard to play rugby but the conditions made it difficult.
The home side fielded a massive pack and their backs weren’t far behind, the deep mud made it ideal for them and they were first on the score sheet with a typical forwards try, Mayfield adapted to the pitch and tries from Sheehan, Kershaw, and Slack put the game beyond Westhoughton.
More tries, again from Slack Sheehan and Harte secured the win for the Rochdale side before Gleeson added one to put the icing on the cake. Four conversions from Gleeson made the final score 16 – 36.
This was another good performance in terrible conditions with stand out contributions from Battersby, Greaves and Simpson Slack also impressed with two tries.
Next game for Mayfield is tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 21 January) at the Mayfield sports centre when they entertain Leigh East.
Team, Joe Harte, Tom Greenwood, Rob Kershaw, Jake Boardman, Kristian Duffy, John Marsland, Luke Hartley, Andy Battersby, Taurean Sheehan, Dunc Simpson, Doug Carre, Antony Greaves, Aidy Cleeson, Dan Slack, Simon Howe, Phil Cockayne, Tony Parkinson.
Fixtures; Mayfield v Leigh East. Kick Off: 2.00pm.
