Mayfield preview

Leon Ashworth takes his young Alliance side to Littleborough today in their first Riley Cup game of the season - and he is relishing the opportunity to test the lads in a local derby game.

“This Mayfield side are buzzing,” said Ashworth, “We lost only one game last season and beat some quality sides along the way.

“So there is no fear but also no complacency, we will go to Boro and show them the respect they deserve but that’s where it ends, we want to win.

“Training this week has been geared to this and the lads have responded well showing some excellent qualities far beyond the years of such a young bunch of lads.

“Players like Brad Robinson, Jake Johnson, Jack Ashworth and Dave Devlin have been a revelation, put these lads in with the more seasoned players like Andy Lee and Mark Nyland and it is easy to see why this team have the reputation they do. Apart from the injured Dunc Simpson we have a full squad who are raring to go, so roll on 2 o’clock.”
