Mayfield preview

Table topping side Woolston Rovers from Warrington are today’s visitors to the Mayfield Sports Centre where they take on the Mayfield Academy side.

The two sides have already met this season when Woolston ran out comfortable winners as their outstanding centre ran in five tries.

Mayfield has made huge strides since then and has drafted in some experienced players and some quality youngsters.

All being well there will be a debut for the vastly experienced Tony Parker, Tony is a strong running forward with a good pedigree having played more rugby than most off Rochdale put together.

At the other end of the scale there is Luke Hartley, Ryan Drennan, Danny Slack, Tom Greenwood and Ben Emerson all aged 16 and 17 and all hitting form at the moment.

Most of the lads trained with the first team squad this week under the guidance of the new club coaching team of Calland and Butterworth.

The lessons they will have learned from these two will prove invaluable over the coming weeks and will hopefully be put into practice this afternoon.

With Joe Harte and Simon Howe now at the helm the Academy team will be hoping to turn round that earlier defeat, especially as Woolston only just managed to beat bottom club Fitton Hill last week.
