Mayfield preview
Date published: 12 November 2011
With the first team’s season over and the Alliance team having no fixture Mayfield academy take the spotlight this afternoon as they travel to Leigh East.
This Leigh side have won five of their seven starts this season, so this will be no stroll in the park for the young Mayfield team.
Team manager Ian Kershaw said: “We have the nucleus of a decent team here, but like any side we need a good run of games so we can build up some momentum.
“It’s difficult to play good rugby when you are only playing every other week, however the powers that be seem to have sorted out the problems and we should now be playing every week.
“We have some good young lads here and they gave shown they can play rugby so we should now start to see the best of them.
“Some of the lads who have made the step up to open age have been a revelation with the likes of Hartley, Senior, Carre, Widdup and Emerson leading the way, they have a lot to learn yet but, with the help of the more experienced players this will come.
“Also looking good in the early part of the season has been Bamford who along with Pirouzan is looking to take the youngsters forward, with time this should be a formidable side.”
Fixtures;
NWC Div 4, Leigh East v Mayfield kick off 2.00pm.
