The rainy October half term failed to dampen spirits as over 40 children attended half term camps accross Bury and Rochdale.

The final Rochdale 'Try It' rugby league holiday camp took place on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 in Littleborough.

The camp, delivered by Rochdale Hornets Community Department and supported by the Bolton,Bury and Rochdale (BBR) Development Group and Littleborough Wolves, was held at St Marys RC Littleborough primary school, just down the road from local community club Littleborough Wolves.

Following on from the Hornets in school coaching programme, 23 children, many of which attend St Marys and are new to rugby league, took part in the two action packed days participating in a mixture of activities aimed to improve FUNdamental skills of rugby league.

The children particpated in traditional playground games such as stuck in the mud along with more contemporary games such as dodgeball and lions and tigers.

Player and assistant coach Chris Hough payed a surprise visit to the camp, Chris spoke to all the children about his playing career and informed them of how to get involved with local community rugby clubs, he also spoke of how discipline plays a big part in sport as well as in every day life.

This year Rochdale Hornets have held 8 camps throughout the borough in partnership with community clubs Mayfield Mustangs, Littleborough Wolves, Rochdale Cobras and Whitworth Spartans. Next year their will be a whole new range of camps announced with details coming soon!

In Bury, the BBR Development Group supported Paul Sculthorpe's 'Scully13' to deliver on the Wednesday and Thursday to 18 children, most of which are new to the game and attended after recieving in school coaching from former Wigan Warrior and Leeds Rhino Danny Sculthorpe over the past weeks.

All of the children enjoyed the camp, hosted at Philips High School, Bury.

With many senior Bronco's players and coaches present, many of the children are keen to join the ranks of local club Bury Bronco's, who play from Philips High School, Whitefield.

The Bronco's are gearing up from entry into the new Junior Summer Rugby League season, which launches in March.
