Mayfield Academy v Shaw Cross

Mayfield’s young NWC side travelled to Dewsbury on Saturday (15 October) expecting to face a division five Shaw Cross second team, Shaw Cross however misread the occasion and included almost their entire National Conference side.

Undeterred the young Mayfield lads gave their best shot and played some good rugby their hosts though were much too strong and ran out 50 – 4 winners.

This result was certainly no disgrace and showed that when they put some structure in their game they can compete with the best.

Hartley and Senior teamed up well once more on the left of the park while Carre and White worked hard down the middle but best on the day for Mayfield was Adam Colclough who put in a non stop display with a punishing stint of defence as well as stepping up to the mark when required to drive the ball forward. He was well supported by Ashworth and Harte.
