Mayfield NWC v Ashton Bears
Date published: 19 September 2011
Mayfield NWC side played their second game on Saturday (17 September) when they travelled to Wigan club Ashton Bears.
Once again they fielded a side made up of youth and experience, with six of last years under eighteens playing.
A bright start from the youngsters lead coach Chris Brett to think another victory was on the cards, Ashton however had other ideas and soon capitalised on some basic errors and cheap penalties conceded by their visitors.
Things went from bad to worse and more penalties allowed Ashton to run in more unanswered tries.
Discipline improved in the second half as did defence but it wasn’t enough the game finished 32 – 0 and Mayfield were well beaten.
There were some good performances from the young lads with Carre Hill, Bamford, and Harte working hard in the backs. Ashton and Pirouzan in the forwards did well. The opposition coach awarded the MOM to Brett, Widduo and Kershaw.
Brett will be expecting some big improvements next week and wants the lads to get to training on Tuesday and Thursday so he can work towards this.
