Alan Rhodes, 54, achieved outstanding results to gain his Black Belt 2nd Dan at The DOJO Karate Centre based on Castlemere Street.
Alan, a stonemason by trade, who has been active in volunteering coaching to youngsters at The DOJO, joined with his son James. They have both continued to progress well and now Alan has caught up to his son under the guidance of Sensei Irfan Ansari (6th Dan), the chief Instructor, who said: “I have found Alan to be very dedicated and of fantastic character. He has been a shining example for adults at The DOJO to look up to for seeking perfection.”
Also successful were Urvah Zaheer, Furvah Zaheer and Mahnoor Khan who all achieved Black Belt 1st Dan. Sensei Ansari commneted: “They all performed well to attain this standard, but they should remember that although it is a great achievement, to stop now, like many people do after reaching this level, would prove to have been a complete waste of effort and achievement as physical performance can only be maintained with practice.
"I encourage everyone who progresses in martial arts to keep practicing and never stop as the benefits of confidence, self-worth, fitness, self-defence capability, etc. will continue as long as you continue to practice.”
