Former Rochdale AFC player Craig Dawson has been called up for the England under 21s squad.
Dawson, was watched by U21s boss Stuart Pearce when he made his first first team appearance for his new club, West Bromwich Albion, on Tuesday night.
As a result of his performance, the defender has been drafted into the 27 man squad to face Azerbaijan in a European Championship qualifier at Watford FC on Thursday, September 1 and Israel in a friendly at Barnsley FC four days later.
This will be the 21-year-old’s first international involvement at any level.
Dawson was signed by West Brom after helping Rochdale clinch promotion to League One in 2009/10 and was loaned back to Dale last term.
