Mayfield preview

After last week’s disappointing start to the campaign Mayfield will look to redress the balance today (Saturday 20 August) as they visit Yorkshire based Elland in the group C match.

Elland notched up a convincing 20 – 2 win last week at home to fellow Yorkshiremen Ovenden. After Mayfield’s poor showing last week Butterworth has worked his charges extra hard this week paying extra attention to ball retention and finishing.

A Club spokesperson said: “Their were times last week when we gave away cheap possession in telling areas of the park, if we want to be a force in this league we cannot afford to do that, added to that there were opportunities to score which we did not take.

“Again we cannot afford to squander chances in games if we want to win. This is a short season and we won’t have long to put our game right if we want to reach the play offs. We have at least five quality players back in contention this week who were unavailable last week so we are confident we can turn it round at Elland.”
