Rochdale Supporters Trust Week: Day two

Date published: 09 August 2011

Potentially the most important reason to join the Trust this year is the likelihood that the club will find a suitable venue(s) for a training ground. The club’s board are working very hard to locate and secure a good facility. If and when they are successful, it will be up to Trust members to vote on whether or not to release the money saved up for it, and indeed which venue to spend the money on.

There is an alternative destination for the money currently in the pipeline, however. Dale fans know as well as any other club how frustrating, and financially damaging, it is to have matches postponed due to bad weather. The club are trying to combat this by speaking to companies which produce pitch covers. If a good quality pitch cover is sourced, at an acceptable price, it may well be that the price isn’t too far away from the total we have raised for a training ground.

If this situation were to present itself, the Trust feel that even though the money was raised specifically for a training facility, it may be better used on pitch covers. This is due to the potential to save the club money for years and years to come by being able to hold games which they currently could not. Also, speaking as fans ourselves, we think some fans may feel prouder to see the money you have helped to raise being spent on something more tangible, which you can see for yourself week in week out. Again though, due to the amount of money in question, the decision would be put to a vote amongst Trust members.

If you’re not a member, you will not have a say on how to spend the fund, so don’t miss out on being involved in what could be one of the biggest decisions in Dale’s history, something that could well shape the future of the club.
