New start gate for BMX Club

Riders at the ready
After months of fundraising members of Heywood BMX Club got to use their new start gate control system this week.
The club has recently introduced a membership structure and pricing policy for club sessions held at the BMX track in Queen’s Park, where all funds raised get ploughed back into the track and club equipment.
The club has been extremely lucky to also receive donations from local companies D.Turner & Son Machine Removals Ltd, Dirtworks BMX and the Heywood Rotary Club to help fund the start gate control system.
The club is currently going from strength to strength, with riders young and old regularly competing in Regional BMX races and travelling to different clubs in the North Region.
Last year they had four riders enter the British Cycling BMX Championships held in Cheddar and this year they are expecting 20 riders to compete representing Heywood and the North Region BMX.
Thirteen-year-old rider John Cross was 1st in his age category in the North Region, until an unfortunate accident meant him missing the last race; hopefully he will be well enough to compete in September’s BMX Championships.
The next BMX race will be held at Manchester’s Platt Field on Sunday 7 August. Heywood BMX club will be taking along some of their newer riders to compete in the novice category; Oliver Stansfield, 5, Joe Matthias, 6, Thomas Hartley, 6, William Miles, 6 and Phil Matthias and Craig Stansfield in masters. The club wish them the very best of luck and hopefully they will be bringing home a few trophies on Sunday.
