Bamford-Fieldhouse u15s 120-1 v Moorside ‘A’ 111-4

Date published: 24 May 2011

The first round of the Leicester Shield pitted two unbeaten sides together and Bamford got through by a narrow 9 nine run margin.

Bamford batted first but accurate bowling by Jamie Taylor and Corbitt strangled the openers and eventually Corbitt removed Alex Willis for 6. The replacement bowlers though were unable to keep up the pressure and soon Joe Smith-Butler and Matt Buckley increased the run rate substantially with a number of boundaries. When Smith-Butler retired on 50, Abbu Alam added 12 to Buckley’s 37 to set a difficult total of 121 to win.

Bamford made a great start when a juggled catch by Joe Mitchell off Smith-Butler saw the dangerous Charlie Price removed for a duck but Jamie Taylor got the innings back on track. After Ahmed Nawaz bowled Jump for 4, Taylor got good support from both Fullerd and Fay and he powered to his 50 taking 18 off one over. After Taylor’s retirement, good bowling from both Nawaz and Smith-Butler contained the visitor’s batsmen in the final overs and Bamford earned a home tie against the winners of Austerlands and Glodwick.
